AMSTERDAM, Holland

Amsterdam is a city of many picturesque canals that are lined with 16th and 17th century patrician’s houses.  There are also many lovely buildings and monuments, including the Opera House and a variety of boats including many charming houseboats.  There is a wooden double drawbridge, the Skinny Bridge, familiar from many paintings.  The Van Gogh Museum contains the world’s largest collection of Van Gogh paintings, as well as the works of other important artists.  The Van Gogh collection is divided into five sections:  The Netherlands, Paris, Arles, Saint-Remy and Auvers-sur-Oise.  Each represents a different pariod in the artist’s life.  [see Photos]
