      NEUROPTERA, Nymphidae --  <Images> & <Juveniles>

Clausen (1940) noted this as a separate family of Neuroptera.  Nymphus myrmeleonides Leach is found in Australia and certain islands of the South Pacific.  Larvae are found under debris, each covered so that only the front of the head and the mandibles are exposed.  They are believed to prey on wood ants, which are common in their environment.  They form a spherical, parchment-like cocoon (Clausen 1940/62).
