I have a triple role due to the three hats that Dr. Allen wears. I am officially the Staff Research Associate (SRA) for her lab. Much of my job as an SRA is to provide continuity for the lab, as we temporarily "house" graduate students, post docs, researchers and undergraduate lab assistants. I also coordinate data collection and analysis for various plant ecology projects. In October 1999, I became Managing Editor for the Restoration Ecology journal. Dr. Allen was asked to become editor-in-chief of the journal when Dr. William Niering died suddenly; I agreed to help with the ever constant process of moving manuscripts through review, revision, acceptance, and finally, publishing. My third role is with cooperative extension due to Dr. Allen's natural resource specialist function with CE. I work with various governmental and non-governmental organizations, including Riverside-Corona Resource Conservation District, City Parks and Rec and the Riverside Land Conservancy on various natural resource issues. RCRCD helped me realize one of my dreams, by providing me the opportunity to write and publish my book "Birdwatching in Your Own Backyard: In the Inland Empire Area".
